Rebels take season opener 56-52

The Rebels started the season right Friday night by beating Lanier County 56-52 in Nashville.   The game went back in forth the entire first half, both teams not being able to pull away.  Lanier ceased control in the 3rd quarter and went ahead of the Rebels 40-33.  After a quick timeout to get their heads together, the Rebels started playing to their tempo and went on a 17-3 run.  Despite poor free throw shooting throughout the game, the Rebels hit clutch free throws down the stretch and fought off a last minute comeback from Lanier.   Berrien was led by Taurus Wilson, whose post play help set the tempo and give BHS the momentum during the latter stages of the 3rd quarter and throughout the 4th as well.  Gervonne, "Vito" Bellamy also had 10 points including a clutch 3 pointer during Berrien's big run.  Keddron West consistently handled the ball and was a leader on the court.

This was first year coach Patrick McClure's first victory at the Varsity level.  Coach McClure says, "This was  a team effort and only possible because the boys played extremely hard and focused on their jobs on the court.  We need to get better in a lot of different areas, but with only nine practices under our belt, I thought they did very well.  Tonight was a dream come true for me and it couldn't of gone any better  thanks to these players."

Berrien Boys JV also won heavily against Laniers JV.  The JV squad was led by Drew Anderson, Treshaad Williams, and Chris Capers.

Berrien will be in action Tuesday night against Baker County in Nashville @ 7:30.
